Mentoring Description
Carmel School is truly proud of its most invaluable teaching staff and the expanse of learning experience that they share.
Five of our senior Teacher-Facilitators with exemplary record have been serving the institution since its inception in 1986 thereby completing 25 years of service. More than 31 Teacher-Facilitators serving today have an impressive 20 years of service and about 94 Teacher-Facilitators have completed 15 years of service. At least 182 teachers have been serving for a decade and thus they continue to keep the tradition aglow of ‘moulding the students to face the challenges in life’.
Senior teachers and co-ordinators always welcome the new recruits with open arms into the Carmel family. They have constantly provided the extra warmth and guided the new comers with humility to enfold them into the Carmel system. On-the-job training is provided on a regular basis to keep all facilitators abreast of the recent methodologies in various discipline and activities in accordance with the excellent tradition and standards of Carmel School.
The unique quality of every teacher in Carmel School is that of a “counsellor not by formal training, but by experience”.
A “caring and careful” watch is kept over children who need more attention than others. The main aim being to
- Gain confidence and raise aspirations.
- Improve academic performance.
- Improve quality of classwork / complete coursework.
- Reduce offending behaviour and help become less distruptive in School.
This is achieved through a balance of firmness and gentle love as the teacher approaches the child as a “Parent Teacher”. Regular liason between the teacher and parent plays a vital role in the change of behaviour of the child as the teacher sheds positive light on the progress and gives practical advice to the parent, the parent does the same. Working hand in hand changes the child for the better.
